MS EUROPA 2
EUX2507
Start your cruise in Los Angeles by exploring the fascinating Hollywood district, the Walk of Fame, Sunset Boulevard or the famous Dolby Theatre. San Francisco then offers you an exciting kaleidoscope of cultures and the option of a wine tasting* in the scenic Sonoma Valley. After a relaxing day at sea, you will reach Astoria, a cosy small town attractively located on the Columbia River. As soon as the EUROPA 2 crosses the border to Canada and moors in Victoria, the impressive natural landscape will attract all eyes. Go hiking in Goldstream Provincial Park*, where gold was discovered in the 19th century. Relaxed coastal flair, in contrast, awaits you in Nanaimo, a tranquil little town. Did you know that Vancouver is considered one of the most liveable cities in the world? You have two days to discover it in depth – most impressively from a bird’s-eye view by seaplane*, for example. The way back south takes you via Seattle to Eureka. Finally, enjoy exclusive Santa Barbara, probably the most beautiful coastal city in California, and the beautiful beaches of San Diego before your cruise comes to an end in Los Angeles the next day.

art dealer
thole rotermund
As a schoolboy, he met the publicist, collector and founder of the Kunsthalle Emden, Henri Nannen, who fuelled his enthusiasm for classical modern art. He went on to study art history and literature in Hamburg with study visits to San Francisco and Munich. After completing his master's degree, he joined the Berlin auction house Villa Grisebach as an expert in modern art. In 2000, Thole Rotermund finally turned his passion into a profession: he returned to Hamburg and founded an art dealership specialising in works of classical modern art. In addition to the classic art trade, as a competent consultant he not only advises established collections but also international collectors on the acquisition or sale of a work of art. Thole Rotermund Kunsthandel is represented at the leading art fairs in Cologne, Munich, Karlsruhe and Berlin. He is also a member of the board of the Federal Association of German Galleries and Art Dealers (BVDG).
art mediator
Christian kaspar schwarm
The beginning of Christian Kaspar Schwarm's passion for art is marked by a postcard: It depicted a painting by Sigmar Polke with the ironic sentence "Higher beings commanded: paint the top right corner black." The lightness and wit of this work opened Schwarm’s door to a new world around 25 years ago. Shortly thereafter, he began collecting himself and has since shared his enthusiasm for art with great joy. In 2008, he launched the digital platform "Independent Collectors," which, among other things, publishes the "BMW Art Guide" – the world’s only guide to publicly accessible private collections. For this type of bridge-building, Schwarm was awarded the "Art Cologne Prize" in 2019 for outstanding contributions to art mediation. As a future strategist, which is his primary profession, he particularly values contemporary art as a "precise guide to tomorrow." Schwarm is a voluntary member of the board of the "Friends of the National Gallery" and, according to his own words, along with his wife Lea, is "in a constant state of one great journey of discovery."
Artist
David Horvitz
David Horvitz was born in Los Angeles, where he currently lives and works. He studied at the University of California and at the Waseda University in Tokyo. He obtained a MFA from Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College, in 2010.Witty and poetic, the work of David Horvitz meddles with systems of language, time and networks.
Eschewing categorization, his expansive, nomadic body of work traverses the forms of photographs, artist books, performances, the Internet, mail art, sound, rubber stamps, gastronomy, and natural environments. His work examines questions of distance between places, people and time in order to test the possibilities of appropriating, undermining or even erasing these distances. Using image, text and objects, his works circulate and operate independently of himself, penetrating ever more effectively the intimate sphere. When encountering his works– in the postal system, libraries, or the airport lost-and-found services– our attention to the infinitesimal, inherent loopholes and alternative logics, and the imaginary comes to the fore. Like lullabies impressed upon our minds, Horvitz deploys art as both objects of contemplation and as viral or systemic tools to affect change on a personal scale. Horvitz makes fictions that insert themselves surreptitiously into the real.

Gallery owner
Carola persiehl
GallerY Commeter
When the Commeter'sche Kunsthandlung moved into its first premises in Johannisstraße in 1821, it was the first business of its kind in Hamburg. Ernst Georg Harzen and Matthias Commeter, the founding fathers, had a significant influence on art life in Hamburg. The gallery is still a defining institution in Hamburg's art scene today. Over the decades, it has always been run by family members with flair and passion. Carola Persiehl, whose great-great-grandfather once took over the Commeter'sche Kunsthandlung, has been running the business since 1997. With her, the gallery has arrived at the centre of contemporary art. Her programme is based on an attitude that has characterised the gallery from the very beginning: "You have to fall in love with a picture if you want to recommend it," she says about her work. Enthusiasm for art and business acumen, the combination of idealism and knowledge with the pragmatic maxim that the good, the true and the beautiful have their price - this is the legacy of Harzen and Commeter. It has been preserved through the vicissitudes of history and forms the solid foundation for all the "art things" that we will be able to discover in the Commeter Gallery in the future.
