Rushing waterfalls, lush rainforests and Mayan heritage. Central America has many faces. The Central American ‘continent’ comprises the states of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. Due to its eventful history, travellers to Central America can look forward to a wide variety of historical and cultural sights.
They used the number zero, developed an exact calendar and a sophisticated script. And erected magnificent buildings in their cities. The mysterious Mayan people continue to fascinate people to this day. As our guest, you can admire famous historical sites such as the pyramids of Chichén Itzá or the archaeological site of Teotihuacan. One of the largest archaeological sites on the American continent is the Tikal National Park in Guatemala. An engineering marvel awaits you on a day trip through the Panama Canal. The 81.6 kilometre-long canal connects the Atlantic at Colón with the Pacific at Balboa.
With an area of around 18 million square kilometres, South America is the fourth largest continent in the world. Almost 400 million people live on the southern part of the American double continent. The Atlantic Ocean lies to the east of the subcontinent and the Pacific Ocean to the west. At the southern tip is the rugged Tierra del Fuego, before the Atlantic and Pacific meet at the legendary Cape Horn.
