The old herring factory in Djupavik, which has now been turned into a museum, tells the story of prosperous times. Akureyri, located deep in the fjord, welcomes you as a northern gem. Lava formations and craters let you experience Iceland’s rugged north*, as does a sightseeing flight over the volcanic landscape* or a ride on Icelandic horses*. It only takes one step to cross the Arctic Circle on Grimsey. After passing the partly glaciated island of Jan Mayen, a legendary destination lies ahead of you: Svalbard. Explorer’s terrain with the striking silhouette of a peak and the habitat of polar bears, whales, Arctic foxes and reindeer.
