The first of many insider tips is car-free Mackinac Island – which can be best explored by bike or horse-drawn carriage. Victorian mansions and Fort Mackinac tell of the Revolutionary War. On Lake Huron, the HANSEATIC inspiration is in its element as it heads for Parry Sound amidst 30,000 islands. Picturesque beaches on the shore of the lake invite you to hike along the marine walking trails. The wild nature around the small coastal town of Killarney is ideal for a Zodiac ride. You will reach the industrial city of Windsor via the Detroit River and set off to explore the automotive history of Detroit*. After cruising across Lake Erie, nautical masterpieces will dominate your days: passing through eight locks in the Welland Canal, your ship overcomes almost 100 m (328 ft) in height, which is equivalent to the height of Niagara Falls. The captain will navigate you safely through the Thousand Islands in Lake Ontario, which meets the St Lawrence River. Seven locks take you to cultural highlights in Montreal and Quebec. Here you will experience French savoir vivre and Canadian zest for life. Keep an eye out for belugas as you cruise through the Saguenay Fjord, which is framed by mountains. Finally, Canada has two island gems in store for you: the Iles de la Madeleine and Prince Edward Island. The itinerary depends on official approval. The use of on-board Zodiacs is currently not permitted on this cruise, with the exception of in Killarney. When the ship is at anchor, the ship’s tender boats will be used.
