    The highlights of this cruise

When we say Arctic, we actually mean the Arctic Ocean. It is around six times larger than the European Mediterranean and borders the continents of Europe, Asia and America. The best travelling conditions prevail in the Arctic summer from June to August/September. This is when the climate is mild and the wildlife is at its richest. With a small expedition ship and the Zodiacs, our robust inflatable boats, you will experience vast landscapes, deeply carved fjords, mighty glaciers and bizarre ice and rock formations from fascinating close-up.

    show complete itinerary

Probably the most intense form of exploration and one of the greatest adventures of our time: the Northwest Passage. Hardly more than 100 ships have travelled it since Roald Amundsen completed the first passage in 1906. Now you, too, can tackle this pioneering feat on board the HANSEATIC inspiration. A milestone in your own life story and perhaps a journey to yourself. Around 5,800 km (3,604 mi.) long, with places that have often never been captured on film and remain shrouded in myths and vagueness. Today, countries around the word are eyeing the gas and oil reserves or elements such as lithium there. The past, present and future of exploration lie nowhere closer together than in these realms. See the unique environment for yourself. Your first chapters take you to the coast of the Alaska Peninsula and along the volcanic island chain of the Aleutian Islands. Visit the home of bison, fur seals and bald eagles, and trace the history of settlers. Your expedition ship is perfect for navigating you safely through the extremely challenging Northwest Passage. Every day, the names of the islands remind you of their former explorers – whose exciting stories will be retold by your experts. Weather and ice set the pace for the destinations navigated to amidst the labyrinth of islands. Multiple Zodiac rides, landings and hikes are planned. When you reach the west coast of Greenland after intensive expedition weeks, your epic will be complete. An atmospheric finale to your cruise, which you will crown with fantastic natural spectacles and lasting memories. You are now among the few people who have mastered the Northwest Passage.

---- The ice conditions determine the course here (see map).

Important note on this expedition: This expedition is a very demanding cruise to organise and sail. All of our experience and careful preparation notwithstanding, the actual itinerary depends on official approvals and rules, as well as the weather and ice conditions, which may make it necessary to change the itinerary. The natural experiences and animal sightings described are possibilities and are not guaranteed. We will do everything in our power to ensure that this cruise takes place as advertised, but wish to inform you of the flexibility this requires. The captain will decide on the best possible alternative depending on local conditions.
