What a way to start your cruise: Table Mountain rises over 1,000 m (3,281 ft) above CAPE TOWN and from its high plateau offers a magnificent view of the city, the deep-blue ocean and the mountainous hinterland. Enjoy the legendary scenery, which has inspired many explorers, and immerse yourself in the fascinating West African coastline after a day at sea. LUDERITZ is considered the Namibian settlement. When the land was acquired by the Bremen merchant of the same name in 1883, he hoped for rich mineral resources. Even today, the houses in the Wilhelmine style still bear witness to the colonial past. You can reach the country’s natural wealth via WALVIS BAY: off the coast, pelicans and flamingos mingle together with a colony of seals* while the shimmering golden expanses of the Namib Desert* spread out to the south. LOBITO in Angola is an important hub in the region. Parts of the city stretch along a kilometre-long island, which you can discover on a round trip*. A turning point in time is visible in the capital LUANDA: thanks to rich oil deposits, skyscrapers rise into the sky alongside buildings from the Portuguese colonial era – see for yourself on a panoramic trip*. Then relax on ANNOBON ISLAND before reaching the lush rainforests and golden beaches of SAO TOME, a Garden of Eden for birdwatchers and those seeking relaxation. You can witness the moving history of the continent in DAKAR. Today, the capital of Senegal combines the African flair of the markets with the hustle and bustle of modernity to create an exciting mix that is best experienced on a city tour*. African influences also characterise the culture of the Creoles on Cape Verde. Sailing yachts bob in the harbour of MINDELO, traditional fishermen go about their work in the beautiful bay and typical Cape Verdean music can be heard from the bars in the cobbled streets of the old town* in the evenings. The tropical nature, rugged mountains and endless beaches make the islands a nature and hiking paradise. Santo Antao is particularly beautiful. From PORTO NOVO, you have the opportunity to discover the unspoilt nature on a scenic tour* or to hike in the mountains on old trading routes*. Reflect on your many impressions during the last two days at sea and set off home from LAS PALMAS.
