    The highlights of this cruise

Greenland, the largest island in the world, is a multifaceted treasure trove for explorers. Imposing icebergs drifting through Disko Bay will leave you speechlesas, as will the contrasts of flourishing tundra and mighty mountain ranges. Inuit settlements such as Sisimiut on the west coast set cultural accents. Pure solitude, on the other hand, can be found in the seclusion of the North-East Greenland National Park, where man is only a marginal phenomenon.

    show complete itinerary

The fascination of the Arctic is almost impossible to convey through travel reports or films. It needs to be experienced first-hand – and the HANSEATIC spirit makes this possible. Your first stop is Uummannaq with its colourful houses. From here, you set course for great adventures in the Canadian Arctic, such as on Baffin Island. Devon Island is rocky, dry and with reddish soil. Keep an eye out for polar bears, musk oxen and Arctic hares. Great Arctic panoramas await you on the southern coast of Ellesmere Island. How far can the ship advance? If the landing on Pim Island is successful, you can retrace the Greely expedition of 1884. With luck, you might see some polar bears from the deck. The passage through the Nares Strait is absolutely dependent on the ice. In 1909, the polar explorer Robert Edwin Peary travelled through it as the first person to reach the North Pole. A privilege for you: barely any other ships sail the waters of north-west Greenland. Discover places that remain hidden to most people. Follow in the footsteps of polar explorer Knud Rasmussen as you explore Qaanaaq and Etah. You might spot whales and seals. Cruising off Cape York, you will come across icebergs before the impressive glacier of Ilulissat appears on the west coast of Greenland, which you will explore on a hike with your experts. These spectacular experiences are topped by Disko Bay. Breathtaking ice formations drift slowly through the water – with you at the centre once again. Finally, Sisimiut provides diverse insights into Inuit culture. By the end of this expedition, the once blank pages of your own logbook will be brimming with many Arctic experiences.

---- The ice conditions determine the course here (see map).

The itinerary depends on official approval, weather and ice conditions. The natural experiences and wildlife sightings described are possibilities on this expedition and are not guaranteed.
