From its white beaches to its deep, lush jungle, Brazil is a country with a vibrant zest for life, incredibly diverse species and extraordinarily beautiful nature: very few countries are as abundant with the wonders of creation. Start your cruise with relaxing days at sea as the experts on board the HANSEATIC spirit prepare you for its diversity and dimensions. Your first destination is a highlight in itself: Rio de Janeiro. Be welcomed by the open arms of Christ the Redeemer on the Corcovado mountain, while the ever-present Sugarloaf Mountain sweetens your impressions. Rio is the epitome of zest for life: beaches and samba, Copacabana and Ipanema. Form your own impressions of the contrasts between the historic colonial buildings, the famous Maracana stadium and the futuristic skyscrapers - two days are scheduled to ensure an especially intensive encounter. Beyond the urban world, a cultural heaven awaits at over 800 m (2,625 ft). Delve into the legacy of Dom Pedro II. in Petropolis - the imperial city*. The emperor built his summer residence here from 1843, and its half-timbered gables bear the hallmarks of German builders. The city was a second home to the writer Stefan Zweig. In homage to the country, he wrote: "Anyone who truly experiences Brazil has seen enough beauty to last half a lifetime." Accordingly, the HANSEATIC spirit offers you the chance to consciously experience the country with all your senses. Thirsting for knowledge of authentic local lifestyles? Then Eat Rio - facets of Brazilian cuisine* will be exactly to your taste. This culinary tour will take you to markets and alleys in search of unusual Amazonian dishes and everyday stories. Your hunger for natural experiences will be sated by a hike on Pedra Bonita*, topped off by fantastic views of the city and one of the world's tallest monoliths. A helicopter flight over Rio*, circumnavigating the Corcovado mountain, offers amazing aerial views. If you'd prefer to stay grounded, explore one of the world's largest urban jungles on an all-terrain vehicle tour in Tijuca National Park*. As you travel through the rainforest, you will see a huge range of birds, iguanas and apes.

Salvador, from 7.00 to 0.00 hrs
In Salvador, African roots and colonial history flow together in impressive fashion - a melting pot of architecture and cultures. The ship will stay here into the evening so that you have plenty of time to explore the mysterious city. This is a place of vast alleys and boulevards. In the historic part of the city - a UNESCO World Heritage site - magnificent buildings recall the colonial era. Take a walk through the old town* and journey through time with visits to the baroque cathedral, which dates from 1672, and the ornate Sao Francisco Church. Gain further insights into the past with historical treasures in the hinterland*. Marvel at Santo Amaro, which was made rich by tobacco and cotton production and diamond exports, and the picturesque twin towns of Cachoeira and Sao Felix. The cheerful Afro-Brazilian way of life is shaped by music and dance. It doesn't get much more intoxicating than a percussion workshop*, in which you will learn about the roots of the people. The country's cuisine is equally expressive - and spicy, as you'll see for yourself on a market visit and cookery course* with plenty of samples.
Relaxation at sea
Recife, from 7.00 to 18.00 hrs
In the 17th century, John Maurice, Prince of Nassau-Siegen left his mark in Recife in the form of timeless beauty. He transformed swamps and islands into a city with bridges, canals and palaces. His legacy bears witness to the creative skills of a bygone era. In contrast, we have a masterpiece of classic architecture: fascinating Olinda* - created by Portuguese settlers. Even from a distance, the magnificent buildings rise above the palms and flourishing trees. A walk along the little alleys will introduce you to the history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, seemingly turning back time. Marvel at the life's work of one of Brazil's most important sculptors - thousands of ceramic figures - on a visit to the Brennand Museum*.
Natal, from 7.00 to 17.00 hrs
At Brazil's northernmost point, Natal, the "city of the sun", offers further highlights. Dramatic and beautiful nature and culture shape the city and surrounding area* - with the star-shaped Forte dos Reis Magos and the endless beaches. The dunes and beaches buggy tour* will show you how the wind shapes the landscape. Ride through white desert landscape to little lakes and the turquoise lagoon at Pitangui - go for a swim and let the idyllic coast capture your heart once again. As with the many other picture-perfect spots on this cruise, Brazil's diversity will remain with you forever.
