Journey to Seward/Alaska/USA
Seward/Alaska/USA, departure 20.00 hrs
Kodiak/Alaska/USA, from 12.30 to 18.00 hrs
Alaska satisfies your longing for great adventures in vast wilderness. The stuff that explorers' dreams are made of will show itself to you in impressive form on this unforgettable journey. On Kodiak Island, individual explorations or shore excursions with our experts become your personal prologue: get glimpses of the time when Kodiak City was the second largest settlement in Russian America. Or hike through Fort Abercrombie State Park in the footsteps of 19th century trappers.
Homer, from 6.00 to 22.00 hrs
In Homer, the starting point for exciting tours, you will be able to observe bears in spectacular natural surroundings*: A seaplane will take you on a panoramic flight to Katmai National Park, where you may be lucky enough to observe brown bears fishing for salmon in a protected area at Brooks Falls. Or you fly to Lake Clark National Park - during a hike with a ranger you can also experience brown bears in their natural environment. Actively enjoy the beautiful landscape on a coastal hike* or a kayak trip*.
Cruising at the Aialik Glacier
The best views are also presented to you when cruising at the Aialik Glacier - a true play of contrasts in blue and white.
Prince William Sound
The HANSEATIC nature will spend two days in Prince William Sound to allow for even more thrilling natural experiences. Spontaneity rather than a fixed itinerary: if there are suddenly sightings of orcas, sea lions or – on land – bears, the captain and crew will heave to for unforgettable encounters.
Cruising in Tsaa Fjord (Icy Bay) and at the Hubbard Glacier
Cruising on the Tsaa Fjord will reveal some of the most beautiful sides of picture-book Alaska: high alpine peaks, green forests, glaciers and ice. As the HANSEATIC nature nears the active Hubbard Glacier, the small expedition ship is in its element and will make its way through the ice floes towards the edge of the glacier if the conditions are right.
Alaska’s Inside Passage:
Chichagof Island
At Chichagof Island, in the settlement of Elfin Cove – whose population is around just 30 – you will see how people in this region live in harmony with nature. More wildlife sightings and fantastic scenery await as you cruise through the Icy Strait, a favourite summer resort of humpback whale families.
Cruising in Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm
A spectacular shipping route and a dream come true for passionate explorers lies before you: the Inside Passage. Now is the best time to discover the pristine soul of Alaska – with deep fjords and scattered islands. When you’re not engrossed by the animals, you can marvel at high rock faces and thundering waterfalls in Tracy Arm with an impressive glacier backdrop. The same goes for Endicott Arm where, with luck, you will see whales and sea lions.
Petersburg, from 7.00 to 17.00 hrs
Cruising through the Wrangell Narrows
Picturesque Petersburg is known as “Little Norway”. Painted flower garlands adorn its houses. This idyllic atmosphere will be enriched by a flight over the LeConte Glacier*, where you might also see mountain goats and black bears. The captain and crew will demonstrate their nautical expertise on the challenging passage through the Wrangell Narrows.
Wrangell, from 7.00 to 20.00 hrs
The picturesque city of Wrangell is one of Alaska’s oldest settlements. From here, go bear watching at Anan Creek*: this wild creek is visited by salmon during their spawning migration – and, with luck, by black and brown bears. Go on an excursion through the former gold-digging territory of the Stikine and enjoy an adventure on this large river*.
Ketchikan, from 7.00 to 18.00 hrs
Then, be enchanted by Native American culture in Ketchikan and take another opportunity to go on a bear watching tour*. Take a flight over the Misty Fjords* and marvel at deep inlets, green shores overlooked by mighty mountains and roaring waterfalls. A region that will touch your soul – as will a jeep and canoe trip on Revillagigedo Island*.
Cruising through British Columbia’s Inside Passage/Canada via Alert Bay
The HANSEATIC nature will then take its time to cruise through British Columbia’s Inside Passage with its many islands, wooded mountains and the small Native American settlements along the banks that will slowly glide past. Experience magnificent panoramas, perhaps enhanced by the sight of orcas and bald eagles. The history of the First Nations – Canada’s indigenous peoples – will also be a focus: Alert Bay, the territory of the Namgis, is home to a huge totem pole. A formidable sight – like the many other chapters you will write on this adventure story of a cruise.
