Charter flight from Hamburg** to Tromso
Tromso/Norway, departure 20.00 hrs
Svolvaer/Lofoten Islands, from 9.00 to 16.30 hrs
Cruising in the Trollfjord
Spectacular facets of northern Europe lie ahead of you, and your first day on the HANSEATIC inspiration begins with a highlight: the Lofoten Islands. Around 80 islands extend far into the Norwegian Sea – some barren, some overgrown, with idyllic fishing villages in small bays. Svolvaer, the region’s capital and economic centre, welcomes you against a majestic mountain backdrop. Explore this small town independently or take a scenic tour with a visit to the Viking farm*, where over a thousand years of history are brought to life through various media. Calm and silence surround you as you go horse riding on the Lofoten Islands* across beaches and fields. Norway is the setting for great natural spectacles. The deck is the best place to marvel at the narrow passages through fjords and islands. For example, you can experience the entrance to the Trollfjord, which is only 100 m (328 ft) wide, from up close. This is the home of mythical creatures from Norwegian mythology – and of the sea eagles you will hopefully be able to watch.
Svartisen, from 7.00 to 12.00 hrs
In the county of Nordland, the deep swathes between the mountains reflect the primeval force of the Svartisen glacier, which for thousands of years has stretched its arms out into the sea. On a landing, you will hike to a lake with a great view of this icy wonder glittering in white, blue and turquoise.
Rorvik, from 7.00 to 13.00 hrs
The dreamy little town of Rorvik and its typical wooden houses are located in an archipelago. A fascinating museum explains the history, culture and modern challenges for coastal residents. Enhance your impressions on board as well with expert presentations and the Ocean Academy.
Geirangerfjord, from 12.00 to 18.00 hrs
All around the HANSEATIC inspiration, you can enjoy both ocean views and the thrill of being at the heart of the experience – for example, on the spectacular entrance into the Geirangerfjord. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a gigantic amphitheatre of snow-covered peaks and high rock faces. The “Seven Sisters” and “Suitor” waterfalls promise exhilarating impressions. Dalsnibba and the “Eagle’s Bend”*, a winding road along the cliffs, reward you with sensational clear views. Enjoy the spray and noise when you reach the highlight of the hike to the Storseter waterfall*. Active explorers can stand under its spray, which falls from a height of over 30 m (98 ft) and flows on through the green valley.
Bergen, from 13.00 to 0.00 hrs
Bergen is considered one of Scandinavia’s gems. Delve into the history of the Hanseatic trading station, which for centuries dominated trade between Norway and the rest of the world. The historic centre and the colourful wooden houses in the Hanseatic quarter of Bryggen remain vibrant reminders of the past. Take an active journey back through history with a local bike guide on a bicycle tour through Bergen*, passing the main sights. See the idyllic, hilly landscape that surrounds the romantic harbour and modern city on a hike on Mount Floyen*, which offers a wonderful panoramic view of the city.
Eidfjord, from 12.00 to 18.00 hrs
Surrounded by mighty mountains, Hardangerfjord is considered the queen of the fjords. Take an impressive tour from the district of Eidfjord. The Voringsfossen waterfall and Hardangervidda Nature Centre* combine the torrent of water falling around 180 m (590 ft) with fascinating exhibitions about Norway’s nature, climate and environment. Ready for some water sports? A rafting adventure* is a thrilling alternative.
Relaxation at sea
List/Sylt, from 6.00 to 15.30 hrs (lay time subject to the tides)
Wooden groynes in the water and dazzling dunes under an endless sky – welcome to Sylt. Take long walks along endless sandy beaches and through vast landscapes. A guided walk on the mudflats of Blidsel Bay* will show you the diversity of this UNESCO World Heritage Site: the mudflats are teeming with mussels, crabs and snails, while the sky belongs to the northern gannets, kittiwakes and auks. Taking an e-bike across the island* reveals the sea and dunes, thatched-roof houses and a lighthouse. The diversity of the north takes its leave with a North Frisian faarwel as your intensive and exciting cruise comes to an end.
