This exciting golf trip from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean takes you from the Azores to the Spanish mainland.
Fri 08.07 Praia da Vitoria/Terceira – Clube de Golfe da Ilha Terceira
18 beautifully designed holes nestled in a sea of lush vegetation, including blooming azaleas and hydrangeas. The generally straight fairways allow players of all abilities to obtain a good result. The course is situated 375 m (1,230 ft) above sea level, which means it is very susceptible to wind. Play it safe and take one club less.
Wed 13.07 Porto Santo/Madeira – Porto Santo Golf Club
This course will require everything in your golf bag. Severiano Ballesteros has created a golf course that challenges players with each of its 18 holes, carefully incorporating the natural features into its design. The course is divided into two zones – the North Course, which runs along the spectacular cliffs, and the South Course, which takes a more American approach with plenty of water features. The course, which is generally very long, has six par 5 holes. The wind may sometimes prove crucial to how your game unfolds.
Fri 15.07 Portimao – Amendoeira Golf Resort – O’Connor Jnr. Course
Christy O’Connor Junior has designed a championship course with plenty of water contact. Eight man-made water hazards will influence your game between the 14th and 18th holes alone. O’Connor has designed the course in the American tradition – spacious, with very wide fairways, well-placed bunkers and large, highly modulated greens. If you want to emerge victorious, you’ll need to play tactically.
Sun 17.07 Marbella – Club de Golf Valderrama
Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed this championship course to host the Ryder Cup. His goal was fulfilled in 1997, when the American and European golfing elite faced off for the 32nd time in Ryder Cup history. Today, you can play past the gnarled cork trees in the footsteps of Bernhard Langer and his cohorts. A course with plenty of character and complicated greens.
Minimum handicap: 24 for men // 32 for women
