The capital of Norway is nestled between the green mountains of the Oslomarka and the Oslo Fjord. Bringing together old and new architecture in a state of harmony, the Holmenkollen ski jump is a landmark of the city. The new opera house is quite impressive, and you can enjoy breathtaking views of the sea from its roof. In Oslo, there are many ways to explore the city: including on a guided walking tour** – walk past sights such as Akershus Fortress, the town hall and the Ibsen Museum and visit the Nobel Peace Center, which was opened in 2005 and which represents and preserves the philosophy of Alfred Nobel. Alternatively, opt for a city tour** and visit sights including the royal palace and the sculpture park of Gustav Vigeland. Norway’s most famous sculptor fashioned this park, approximately 32 hectares in size, in an artistic process spanning 40 years.
Dive into the history of seafaring on the Bygdoey museum island** on your second day in Oslo. Besides Viking ships, you can see the famous balsa wood raft Kon-Tiki on which Thor Heyerdahl crossed the Pacific Ocean and the polar ship Fram, used by Roald Amundsen on his expeditions to the Antarctic.
