    The highlights of this cruise

The coastlines of the Iberian Peninsula are impressive with their appealing blend of centuries of history and modern life. PORTO also has something for everyone: north of the Douro, the historic centre around the Gothic cathedral is pleasing to the eye, whilst on the south bank the well-known port wine cellars invite you for a tasting. You can combine both sides of the river by walking over the Ponte Dom Luis I to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view from the bridge. LISBON’S timeless elegance is characterised by historic buildings, artistic tiled facades and the typical black-and-white paved streets. From the chic Baixa Pombalina, the Elevador de Santa Justa has been taking people up to the higher districts since 1902. The “City of Seven Hills” can also be explored by tram*, which travels along the Tagus River as far as Belem. This is where you can see the Monument to the Discoveries, honouring Portugal’s history as a seafaring nation, and the Monastery of Jeronimos* where Vasco da Gama was laid to rest.

The EUROPA cruises inland up the Guadalquivir and soon you will be able to see the outline of SEVILLE in the distance. For two full days, you will have the opportunity to get to know the wild heart of Andalusia. In the labyrinth of the old town, the sounds of flamenco music will make you want to dance, and as you stroll around you may be tempted to stop for tapas or a glass of sherry in one of the bodegas. Around five hundred years of Moorish rule has left its mark on the city – the impressive cathedral was built on the site of the main mosque and the Giralda bell tower was originally built as a minaret. The routes from MALAGA into the mountains of the Sierra Nevada also follow in the footsteps of the Moors: the Nasrid dynasty reigned for 250 years from the Alhambra*. Bubbling fountains, intricate carvings and columns decorated with mosaics make the royal palace seem like a magical fairy tale from the Arabian Nights.

Two major cities on Spain’s Mediterranean coast have plenty of surprises to offer with some outstanding architecture: as the City of Arts & Sciences, VALENCIA is a truly modern landmark. A futuristic ensemble of museums, the opera house and Europe’s largest aquarium rise up out of the former river bed. Antoni Gaudí had a lasting influence on the skyline of BARCELONA. His greatest work of art, the still incomplete Sagrada Familia cathedral*, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Parque Guell* has a magical feel to it.

As an oasis of peace high above the city, it is enchanting with its fanciful statues, colourful little houses and a heavenly view. Visit MARSEILLE and enjoy a stylish end to your cruise in NICE on the Cote d’Azur.

    * The shore activities are not included in the cruise price and are in the planning stage. Subject to change.

    Golf cruise

Fri 27.10 LEIXOES (PORTO), PORTUGAL – AMARANTE GOLF CLUB (ADDITIONAL COURSE 1)
A real highlight awaits golfers today: 600 m (1968 ft) above the sea, seven par 3 and three par 5 holes are ready to challenge your game. The topographical situation of the course has a clear influence on the fairways: the “playing field” is very up and down.

Sat 28.10 LISBON, PORTUGAL – PENHA LONGA GOLF CLUB
This traditional resort course is one of the top courses in Europe and represents a considerable but fair challenge for players of all levels. A very harmonious course integrating the natural landscape. There are good reasons for this course being chosen to host the Portugal Open on several occasions.

Tue 31.10 SEVILLE, SPAIN – CLUB DE ZAUDIN GOLF
The golf club is situated in Aljarafe in the west of Sevilla. The beautiful 18-hole course with par 71 was opened in 1992 and designed by the famous Golf professional Gary Player. The layout of the course is not just very modern, but wonderfully integrated into an orange and olive forest.

Thu 02.11 MALAGA, SPAIN – SANTANA GOLF
This unique course is set in the Mijas Golf Valley in the hills of Andalusia. The “golf journey” over 18 fairways takes you through a former avocado and mahogany plantation. With two champions tees and two tees for both men and women, players of all levels will enjoy the challenge.

Sat 04.11 VALENCIA, SPAIN – EL BOSQUE COUNTRY CLUB
El Bosque Club de Golf has a magnificent location in Valencia. Opened in 1975, it was designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr., renown designer of some of the best golf courses.

Sun 05.11 BARCELONA, SPAIN – CLUB DE GOLF VALLROMANES (ADDITIONAL COURSE 2)
Vallromanes is a par-72 course with four par-5’s and, from the white tees, more than 9,000 meters of emerald-green fairways and greens. Buggies are recommended. Very impressive the clubhouse, a massive 18th-century Catalán country house.

Mon 06.11 MARSEILLE, FRANCE – DOLCE FREGATE GOLF CLUB
The breathtaking landscape is definitely a major distraction on this course. Set right on Mediterranean coast, time and again you will be treated to views that will make you forget the game. It’s no surprise that this 18-hole course has received several awards for its beauty.
