In St. Peter Port on GUERNSEY, Hugo’s former home is open to visitors: as well as an insight into the past, the property also offers magnificent views over the bay. The islands have the Gulf Stream to thank for their mild climate – and in turn for their beautiful gardens. Some of the most picturesque are La Seigneurie Gardens* on SARK.

The EUROPA will sail up the Thames as far as GREENWICH and stay for two days in Britain’s capital. Whether you want to go shopping on Bond Street or visit Buckingham Palace* – LONDON is fascinating with plenty of different ways to explore this multifaceted city. A walk through the City of Westminster will take you to see the Houses of Parliament, as well as Hyde Park and multicultural Soho. Built to celebrate the millennium, the London Eye* is also well worth a visit: in good weather, Europe’s tallest Ferris wheel offers views as far as Windsor Castle. Are you a lover of modern art? If so, a detour to the Tate Modern* will be just for you – housed in a former power station, it is also remarkable for its architecture.
