The Alcazaba fortress* looms high over the coastal city and offers some amazing views. Marseille/France

The 2013 European Capital of Culture is dominated by the Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica, and from here there is a breathtaking panoramic view over France’s oldest city. Afterwards, how about a detour to the magnificent Boulevard de Longchamp? Paul Cézanne lived and worked in idyllic Aix-en-Provence* and you can visit his workshop where he produced many of his paintings.

Porquerolles/Iles d’Hyeres/France

With its magnificent sandy beaches and green pine forests, this little-known gem in the south of France stole the heart of Madame Pompidou, who had the island protected. Enjoy the views from the castle over the open sea, the neighbouring islands and the inland Massif des Maures when you visit the island at your leisure.

This ancient and lively town enjoys a picturesque location in the bay of the same name and is enchanting with its pretty old town and beautiful port. Stroll along the narrow streets and along the promenade. Discover a gem of garden art in the Parc de Saleccia* – enjoy the scents and gaze in wonder at the idyllic surroundings between olive trees, cypresses and oleanders.

St. Tropez/France

One of the favourite spots amongst the jet set features a large marina and legendary cafes such as the Senequier, which are a great place to stop for a drink. Soak up the atmosphere as you wander* through the old part of town from the Place de l’Hotel de Ville to the old fishing port. You will also enjoy the special charm of the French Riviera in Bormes les Mimosas*. This delightful village on the slopes of the Massif des Maures offers wonderful views of the coastline.
